They party and have a son, Larry, but alcohol nearly drives them apart. When the navy sends him to Iceland, she wants a divorce. He persuades her to try again but the marriage founders. A sailor urges Chuck to come to Bible study and he eventually prays for salvation. Nell comes at Christmas but they fight, and he sequesters the boy. She goes back to Texas and he prays for two years. Finally, she returns, hears him preach and professes faith in Christ. The marriage is restored.

After he is saved, they move to Chicago and discover "Unshackled!" They go to PGM for years and foster a child from the Women and Children's Division.
