They party and have a son, Larry, but alcohol nearly drives them apart. When the navy sends him to Iceland, she wants a divorce. He persuades her to try again but the marriage founders. A sailor urges Chuck to come to Bible study and he eventually prays for salvation. Nell comes at Christmas but they fight, and he sequesters the boy.
